Baywide Hockey Round 2 Wrap Up
Bay of Plenty Teams Deliver Goals and Grit !
Round 2 of the 2026 Baywide competition delivered plenty of action before the Easter break. Our Bay of Plenty sides showed real character, with some standout individual performances building on the promise from Week 1.
Here’s how the matches played out:
Whakatāne Men vs Tauranga Old Boys United (Whakatāne) United proved too strong on the day, running out 8-0 winners. Whakatāne Men battled hard at home, down 1-0 at the end of the first quarter they were in the game, but a classy United side ran away with it over the last 3 quarters. There were a few BOP names on the scoresheet with the McConnell brothers Riley and Ethan both scoring for United.
Rotorua Aces Men vs Mount Maunganui (Tauranga) Mount Maunganui dominated this one, winning 5-0. The Aces faced a tough test away from home in this crucial fixture and couldn't find an answer for the Mount offence.
BOP Indians vs Otūmoetai Blues . BOP Indians produced a dominant performance, winning 9-2. Karambir “Ricky” Singh was unstoppable once again, netting an incredible 7 goals to take his tally to 10 goals in just two games! This achievement put’s him comfortably clear at the top of the goalscoring table. Armaan Mangat also made his mark, chipping in 2 goals to round out the win. After their fighting comeback in Round 1, this was a statement result from the BOP Indians attack.
Whakatāne Women vs Omanu Premier Blues (Tauranga) Whakatane Women made it two wins from two, beating Omanu 3-1. Brydie Hopkins, Dayna Hoey, and Dani Maunder all found the net. Dani, last year’s Intercity leading goalscorer, got herself on the scoreboard, as predicted showing the younger members of the squad how to finish with clinical effect.
Mount Maunganui vs Rotorua Aces Women (Tauranga) The Aces Women went down 4-0 to The Mount. This was their first match of the season, and although they didn’t get the winning result, there was plenty to build on, and we expect them to grow stronger in the coming rounds.
There are no games this weekend due to the Easter break, a perfect chance to rest, recover, and enjoy some family time before the competition ramps up again.
