Bay of Plenty Women’s Hockey Returns to the National Stage After a Decade!

The Bay of Plenty Hockey Association is thrilled to announce that a standalone BOP Senior Women’s team will contest the 2025 National Hockey Championship in Christchurch from 14–20 September.

This marks the first time in over 10 years that Bay of Plenty will field its own senior women’s side at a national tournament. While a combined Tauranga–BOP team proudly represented the region in 2019, 2025 sees the return of the iconic blue and gold in its own right — a huge milestone for women’s hockey in our province.

Leading the charge is veteran campaigner Joanna Scott, who takes on the captaincy with a wealth of representative experience. Jo will be a calming influence for a squad packed with exciting debutants eager to test themselves on the national stage.

Jo shared her excitement: “It is great to have a BOP Women’s side back at NHC, providing a pathway for young BOP players. This is what we’ve all been working towards.”

The team will compete in the Tier 3 competition, facing strong opposition from across the country. For many of our players, pulling on the BOP shirt at a National Hockey Championship will be a career highlight and the perfect stepping stone toward higher honours.

This achievement is the result of years of hard work by players, coaches, managers, volunteers, and the wider BOP hockey community. Sending a senior women’s team to Nationals again shows that the depth and talent in our region is stronger than ever.

We’ll be sharing squad announcements, training updates, and behind-the-scenes content in the lead-up to the tournament — so keep an eye on the website and our social channels.

To our 2025 BOP Women’s team: go out there, enjoy every minute, and make our province proud!
